Yet another packed out Funktion saw Hot Creations maestro Richy Ahmed treat the Déjà vu crowd to a characteristically bass-filled set, strengthening his image as one of the major rising players on the global house scene.
His 3 hour extended set was littered with elements of funky house, turning up the heat on the Hull crowd by dropping one of his most recent tracks ‘Sneaky Acid’, giving the floor a further injection of energy and providing us with a glimpse of what DC10 felt like throughout the Ibizan summer.
His fluid synthesis between tracks highlighted the control Ahmed holds over the decks, whilst his enthusiasm behind them was clear to see, engaging with the crowd at every drop, even calling the Déjà vu boss the next day to say what great night he’d had, labelling the Hull crowd ‘mental’.
The successful tradition of providing the night’s support from local Hull DJs continued once again, with Alex Robinson B2B with James Northage, and Lee Jeffrey B2B with Danny Jackson. Both sets inspired confidence and pride within the Hull underground music scene, which seems to have a strong undercurrent of active DJs both producing their own material and playing weekly slots around the city.
The Reunion night in the upstairs room at Funktion also provided a platform for those lovers of classic house to indulge in, with Marianne, Reece, John Lancaster and Terry Spamer all bringing the past 25 years of house music to the night.

The Déjà vu train rolls on to Easter Sunday which will be Deja vu's 23rd birthday, and more iconic names from the world of house will grace the Funktion decks with Butler & Bontan, Seff, and K Klassics helping Hull to celebrate. Following that will be yet another Hot Creations signing, Patrick Topping on Saturday 16th April. Déjà vu are not letting up with their schedule, reinforcing Mixmag’s comments labelling Déjà vu, ‘pioneers of House music in the UK’.
