Different Language has now put together a series of raves at its new home at Gate No.5, rapidly establishing itself as Hull’s premier underground music venue. Yet again the intimidating warehouse lining the River Hull proved a perfect place for hosting the highbrow Desolat names of Guti and Hector, reinforcing the excellent connection Different Language has forged with the German label.
Different Language provided the opening set of the night, setting in motion a hard set of beats littered with heavy bass, seeing the floor fill whilst building an electric atmosphere for Mexican-born Hector to take advantage of. His set fed off the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd, with crunching drops being followed by contained and rhythmic beats, Hector finding the perfect balance between hard, energetic basslines, and softer old skool-infused melodies.
Following up Hector was Argentinian rock star Guti, whose genre change was justified through churning out his iconic and playful beats which straddled the boundaries of tech-house and techno. Through latching on to the atmosphere Hector had built, Guti played out some characteristically clean-cut Desolat drops, following these up by intensifying bass and creative rhythm shifts which saw the Gate’s crowd pumping till 4am.
Yet again Different Language provided an intensely enjoyable night, building what is by now, an impressive rapport with major labels such as Desolat, making for a positive and intriguing future for underground music in Hull. Well played.
