Yet another stellar house night was brought to Hull last Friday with Déjà vu presenting one of the UK’s biggest names on the underground scene, Leeds native Darius Syrossian.

The Tribal Sessions frontman came fresh from a heavy and hugely successful season in Ibiza which saw him earn the accolade of ‘House DJ of the Year’ at the Ibiza Club Awards. As his motto goes, Darius brought TRUE. HOUSE. MUSIC to the floor of Welly for a sell-out crowd, creating an electric atmosphere through his crunky, yet fluid set which saw him play out some of his forthcoming tracks for the first time.

Darius’ emphasis on staying true to his roots when his music is concerned was clear to hear, throwing some of his personal old skool favourites in on top of the raw bass typical of his sets, all supported by two scantily clad dancers who brought a flavour of Ibiza to Hull.

Déjà vu always provides a platform for local talent to showcase their potential, and it was Lee Jeffrey and Danny Jackson’s opportunity on the decks. Jeffrey opened up the night and mastered a set which included some of his own productions, laying a solid foundation for his house-hero Syrossian to take the floor to an electric high. Jackson took to the decks to close out the night and was met with a crowd positively kicking from Syrossian’s tear up, and Jackson continued to feed off the vibe of the night, the local talent not looking out of place among such a big name on the scene, both lads doing an impressive job.

The night closed and the lights came on to reveal a dance floor still packed, credit to the DJs and in particular Terry Spamer for making yet another Déjà vu a truly memorable night, the crowd responding as the dance floor emptied to the sound of ‘one more song’.

Déjà vu continues next month with another big line-up as Ben Pearce is joined by Alastair Whitehead, who spins for the increasingly popular Reunion night. 29th November is the date for the diaries, taking place in the newly set up Funktion nightclub (formerly Tokyo). It is not a night to be missed if Friday was anything to go by.
